In  2009, 15 Oromo refugees in Malta were threatened with deportation. ORA UK found an immigration solicitor for them and took up their case with the UNHCR and the Maltese authorities. They were all  granted leave to remain.

In 2009 Oromo relief organisations were registered in Germany, Australia and Kenya.
